February 2003
CHANGE OF CORE ACCEPTANCE: 3176B, C-10 AND C-12 TRUCK ENGINES FOR 3176 CORE
Program
AVSpare announces a change to the core acceptance guidelines for Remanufactured engines.
Effective Feb 1, 2003 AVSpare will begin accepting 3176 engine cores on Reman C-10 and C-12 truck engine sales. For full credit cores, an upgrade charge will be applied on this transaction. Upgrade charges will not be assessed in situations where damaged core charges are applicable, normal core deposit transactions will be processed and the damaged core charge will supersede the upgrade charge.
In addition to the current Remanufactured engine programs for 3176, C-10 and C-12 engines exchanged on a one for one basis, AVSpare is offering another sales alternative. This option expands the C-10 and C-12 program to allow the customer to upgrade from a 3176 or 3176B engine to a Cat Reman C-10 and C-12 engine and return the 3176 core. The upgrade charge that will be applied depends on which 3176 core is returned.
Upgrade Charges
Upgrade charges will be applied as follows when a 3176 or 3176B core is returned on a 3176B, C-10 or C-12 engine sale

Application Information
Installation of the C-10 or C-12 engine in a chassis that was powered by a 3176 with serial number prefix 2YG or 7LG will require wiring harness adapters to connect the truck harness to the engine ECM. The proper adapters and other installation information are provided in publication REHS0400, "Installation of a Remanufactured 3176B Truck Engine into a 3176 Chassis." A truck chassis powered by a 3176B with serial number prefix 9CK will not require adapters. Note: Check radiator and aftercooler core capacity, relocation of water and fuel lines and brackets for belt driven accessories
Core Management
When a C-10 or C-12 upgrade for a 3176 engine occurs, the dealer is required to document the C-10 or C-12 part number and serial number that was sold on the Core Credit Request (CCR). This will trigger the upgrade charge. Final core credit will be the net difference of the C-10 or C-12 engine core deposit and the upgrade charge and any applicable add charges.
Normal core deposit and refund transactions will be processed utilizing Cat® Reman Engine Core Acceptance Criteria SELD0019 and Cat Reman Engine Inspection Check List SELD0020. Core that does not meet the criteria for full credit will be processed and the damaged core charge will supersede the upgrade charge.
